I'm ready to pull the trigger on one of these, but what is the reasoning behind the 1 oz costing just as much as the 2 oz?
I know 300,000 of the 1 oz were minted, can't find how many of the 2 oz were. Is this the reason?

Did a little more research, APMEX has both for near $76 each.
the 1 oz is selling in the mid $40s to low $50s on ebay.
the 2 oz is selling for over $100 each on ebay.

I think I made my decision.

mintages are 300,000 for the 1oz. and the 2oz. is mint to demand which means there may be less of those than the 1oz.coins

What ES said. The mint can make as many as they like of the 2 oz. coin but the 1 oz. variety has a limited run. But on ebay, I can't think of a time when the larger coin wasn't selling at auction for 30-50% more than the 1 oz. version. If the prices are similar, it's an easy choice, IMO.
