I always wanted to get the 2006 $3 Canada Silver 24K Gold Plated Beaver but I haven't seen enough of them come up at auction to get a good idea about what they typically sell for. Any ideas for a price range? I just need to know what's reasonable and what's high, essentially?
Thanks guys!

Whatever the price may be, be aware of the following problem with the coin (which may not be obvious on the picture of the coin):

I was just wondering if anyone had won one on ebay recently and what it cost them; but thanks for the link. At least I know not to bid over the Colonial price, which is more than I knew before. I was thinking the same thing about potential coin damage, Amath, since the coin I'm bidding on has the black ring. But if you're talking about Airtite rings in general, here's what the manufacturer has to say: "Our Rings are made of an inert cross linked polyethylene and serve a couple of purposes; it secures the coin in the holder, creates a barrier against air contamination and in the end presenting an attractive border to accent the coin. Color choices for the rings are black or white."

I paid just over $200 CDN for mine on ebay around Christmas. That's total including taxes (13%) and shipping. So probably around $175 base price. J&M lists them at $225 base price but they're sold out. The Colonial Acres combo Amaths pointed out is a pretty good deal.

Quote: canadian_coins: do all capsules with black insert cause that trouble? That's a good question. I don't know that, but I know many have reported the same problem.

I was "thinking" $125. I guess my thinking was a bit off.

Paid $175 for mine 1.5 years ago. Turned around and sold it though for just under $200 when money was tight. Beautiful coin. Wish I kept one. Quote: do all capsules with black insert cause that trouble? i presume that all the thinly gold plated coins housed with that black foam insert will suffer from the same problem. I don't know if there are Any other RCM coin that was encapsulated with the same stuff though... The only reason the black foam was used was to prop up the unconventional shape of this coin, the first square coin from the RCM

Thanks, Po. I knew this was a fairly expensive coin but it looks like I underestimated its value.

Prices seem to be all over the place on this coin. BIN on ebay are between 145 and 310 yet two sold on the weekend for about $110. In the past month or so, selling price have been in the 140-160 range. Is the selling price variance related to the tarnishing? I don't know of any recent RCM coin that had such a chronic problem so I'm thinking if you have one that is not tarnished, it might be very rare.

After reading a post here about tarnishing I dug out mine, and yeah, totally ruined.Heart breaking.
CC Ottawa I think your right , when the dust finally settles I guessing that the ones not tarnished will be a lot more valuable than they are today.

Yes, the tarnished ones sell considerably cheaper. To my (limited) knowledge this is the coin that had the problem with the wrong type of plastic in the black inserts. Definitely fixed in the more recent issues.
