Saw a listing on Craigslist for three common Morgans for a ridiculous price but what interested me was they where in a PCGS slab that just said Genuine. There was no grade. Why no grade?

It means there is a problem such as cleaning or scratched there should be a code that tells you the issue on the slab

It means the coin is genuine, but it is a 'problem coin' and will not receive a grade. A problem coin can be one with altered surface, cleaned, env.dmg, artificially toned, etc. Part of the code on the slab after the decimal should be a 2 digit no. from 91 to 98 indicating the problem.

Very common on Morgans since they are silver. Lots of people got the bright idea to polish up their coins while they were doing the silverware.

Thanks all. Awhile back I read a post that listed the meaning of each of the numbers 92-98. Could anybody post it again. I thought I bookmarked it.

I don't remember any earlier posts on this, but I always keep a printed page handy at my desk: 91-artifically colored, 92-cleaned, 93-planchet flaw, 94-altered surface,95-scratched/rim dmg.,97-env.dmg.,98-other

From the PCGS FAQ page, what the codes mean and whether or not PCGS will slab it anyway.
