I often see Spanish escudos offered on ebay as coins that circulated in colonial America; however, they have the crowned M mintmark (Madrid). Can anyone tell me what oher mintmarks there are for Spain? Also, did the gold coins minted in Spain have a Latin inscription: INITIUM SAPIENTIAE TIMOR DOMINI (1732-47); NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR (1748-61) and IN UTRAQUE FELIX AUSPICE DEO (1762-1821).
It is more likely that gold coins minted in Spanish America circulated in the American colonies. Thanks.
