Commercials and other advertisements legitimately put out by national mints are pretty interesting, I think. The way mints advertise new coins, new monetary systems, or even just the hobby of coin collecting is really something.

I just wanted to share a few commercials I have found and see if anybody else knew of others to add. Perhaps we could build a small compendium of these commercials.

Australia made a little jingle to go with decimal currency. It's kind of catchy.

And the U.S. mint not totally failing at advertising Sacs.

British decimal currency got a pretty staid ad. Nothing really exciting about it.

And this one is just funny.

There's a bunch of these for the "legendary nature" quarter/loonie/toonie coins that came out earlier in the year. They still play on tv. Really like these commercials.

This is a commercial of the KNM (Royal Dutch Mint) that advertises the "Belastingdienst" coin, a €5 piece issued in 2006. The Belastingdienst (kinda like the IRS in the US) had its 200th anniversary then. Towards the end it gets a little humorous; the presenter talks about a goodie that you can win. One of the others asks, "no taxes for one year?" Of course not. ;)

(Dutch, about 45 sec)

This ECB video is about the 10 year anniversary of the euro cash. You can tell it was made in 2011, as Italy changed the redemption deadline later. ;)

(British English, almost 7 min)

The scenes with Claudia Meriküla were taken from the Estonian euro introduction commercial, produced in 2010. That would be this one:

(Estonian, almost 3 min - actually a combination of various short spots)

And here we have another Dutch commercial. This one is about the WWF/WNF coin (50 Years World Wide Fund for Nature) 2011:

(Dutch, about 30 sec)

Which is why we have YouTube now, so that the DVR generation can still see the best commercials.
