After reading everyone's helpful hints, I am anxious to try to free it, unfortunately I have yet to receive it in the mail. I will post before and after pictures when I receive the coin.

I just use a box cutter to cut the glue and a screwdriver inserted into the cut and twist the plastic apart.
This method also works well with the plastic cases on the proof sets as well.
No need for a hammer or anything heavy handed and I haven't hurt a coin yet.
if coins were meant to be in slabs they would be issued with one at the mint

Got the coin in the mail yesterday. I am planning on picking up a few tools from work tomorrow so I can free Abe from his plastic prison when I get home. Its almost time for a prison break.
