This is an partial image of token or medal "Betts - 403" ... very old, large, and of silver. The Colonial period perhaps. I searched coincommunity site for resources on the Betts numbering, {...sigh}. I would appreaciate help... just to give me a toe hold.
What is the "Betts" numbering system?
Yes, I will buy the book... but which book?
In the meantime any good web sites covering these? {;

I did find this ANA history of one mr. Benjaman Betts

By the looks of the style, the image presented on the screen is suggestive of a medal, not a coin. The height of the relief also suggests this.

A lot of medals of the 18th and 19th centuries were cast, not struck.

The image also suggests that it may not be of silver but some other white metal or alloy.

What is the diameter, weight and thickness of this piece?

I have a copy of the 1964 re=print of the Betts catalogue, which shows on the reverse, a battle scene from the battle of Louisbourg and dated July 26,1758. The medal is described as being struck in brass or pewter, Size 25, whatever that means. There are no prices listed.
I believe the book is out of print. You may find a used copy on ebay or from a dealer handling numismatic books.

I apologize I do not communicate so well.
My question is: "What is the 'Betts' numbering system?" which is used here?
You can see many more of these here (hope it is OK to post this link).

Here is a webpage with links for Betts medals and if you have an e-book reader there is a free download of the reference book: American colonial history illustrated by contemporary medals By Charles Wyllys Betts.

Thank you. Great Resource! wow. and I don't even have to BUY THE BOOK!

Although I did not find betts here, stumbling around in my search, I found this amazing site covering money, tokens, and much more of the colonial period.
(maybe I am the only one....)
