I have a clock, like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-196...em1c22318967

but mine isn't air tight and is missing the hands so its pretty much useless. But the coins are starting to tone. should I let them stay in there clock prisin or should I free them and put them in better protected cases? cause they all seem to be in almost UC condition but I cant really see what they look like on the back of the clock.

Not useless at all. I build many of my own clocks. Actually all the ones in my house. The one shown on that add uses a standard step movement which can be purchased at many hobby shops. Same with the hands. And if you want to get creative, simply go to the http://www.klockit.com web site and order a catalog. In that catalog there is several pages of just hands for clocks. So many you'll get all confused. Same with the movements. You could stop the toning by simply sealing the edges with a hobbiest type plastic glue on all the edges. That is a really neat looking clock though. Nice idea using coins but I wish there would have been a Nickel used for the 1, Dime for the 2, Quarter a good idea for a Quarter of an hour. Then Nickel, Dime, Half next.
I've made clocks out of saw blades, posters, home photos, etc. I think I Just might make one like that next.

I dont know. I guess I would have taken them out by now. I once bought a "Yesterday Americana" set from a garage sale for $10. It had a Barber Half, Quarter, Dime, Liberty nickel, and Indian Head cent. I took them all out. :)

Interesting clock and question. If you want to preserve them, then take them out and put them in holders.

You could always replace them with some circulated ones?

Well I wound up taking the clock apart only to find that most of the reverses( on the back of the clock)were wizzed. kind of a heartbreak. I also know that the creator of the clock sometimes makes them with Morgan as the 12:00 and its a shame if he does the same to them. I think I'm going to just clean the toning and make a nicer looking clock as the coins values were already destroyed by wizzing.

Is the toning attractive? If it is, I would probably leave them in.

take them out and replace with them current coinage that way it would still look nice hanging on a wall, or if you want a vintage piece then leave them in
Rest in Peace

wasoby, making them into your own clock is a great idea. Check the site carl mentioned. Post pics of the finished piece.
