Hi All,

First time out with the metal detector at the weekend and we found this coin. After a bit of hunting around on the internet we think we it might be one of these, but with it being so badly worn it's hard to be sure: http://www.collectorsquest.com/coll...cia-caesaria

Any ideas?

Many thanks

I think you may be on to something with the reverse, but there is no way of knowing if this is Lucius Verus or Marcus Aurelius, or some other emperor. Take a look at this Marcus Aurelius coin: http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/marc.../Syd_324.jpg

See what I mean? There just isn't enough left on this coin to positively ID it. At least not for me there isn't. Good luck and BTW welcome.

I think I see a crab on the reverse But aside from that, the coin is in too poor of a condition for an ID.

Thanks guys. We were a bit excited with it being our first find. Hopefully the next one will be a bit more clear!

And well you should. I know I would be excited as well. Good luck on your next hunting expedition.
