Hi!
I'm trying to improve my photography skills.
I have a Canon Rebel 8MP, probably 7 years old or so.
I typically shoot with OTT lighting.
I do not have a fixed macro lens.
I use DSLR Remote Pro (Breeze Systems).

So my questions are:
Is the body still adequate?
What fixed lens would get the most bang for the buck?
And what settings should typically be used?

Can you post an example of what you are able to do with the existing setup? Do you have a tripod or copy stand or do you shoot handheld?
