i was looking for a sixpence to put in my daughter's shoe at her wedding and found this lying around the house, but it is too worn for me to read. I hoped someone would recognize part of it and be able to tell me what it is.

the coat of arms looks Spanish.
The effigy looks like Isabel II -

I agree with Peter. It looks very much like a 2 Real coin of Isabella II of Spain (1833-1848).Weight should be 2.6g and diameter 18mm. Not possible to see the mint but most likely Madrid or Seville.

you're exactly right. thank you for your help. I think mine might be 2 reales instead of 20 and I cant read a year on it. the isabel is so primitive I suppose it could have been printed in one of the colonies?

The ID is correct, but the portrait has been privately re-engraved. Such "vandalized" coins hold little appeal for most coin collectors, though some appreciate them, especially if they depict unpopular leaders being humiliated after being deposed.
