Does the 1982-D small date copper really exist ?
Noticed one member stated that he found 3 ea.
Wanted a double check on that.

Here is something I found on NGC's website you may get help from ..

Phil \m/

"The 1982-D Small Date Bronze variation does not exist. While none of the coins are considered to be rare, the scarcest of the varieties is the 1982 Small Date Zinc from the Philadelphia mint. NGC attributes the variety of all 1982 Lincoln cents submitted for grading as part of the normal grading process, and VarietyPlus service fee is not necessary for this attribution."

Here is the link to what I was looking at -

Yes, thanks. I have seen just about every bit of info
on it as far as not existing. Still keep an eye out anyway :)
Have been for many years. Years ago they also stated that the 1983 bronze did not exist. Also some other coins. They eventually/magically appeared. Was more curious about the repliers post. Maybe He/She made a mistake.
Guess that person has not been on here for quite a while.

It's theoretically possible, though none are known. The fact that they aren't known implies that Denver didn't have any small-date dies in use until after the switch (which was later in the year because the zincs are in the minority for the year - I'm sure somebody knows the precise date). However, there are a small number of 1983 on bronze, so there were a few left-over planchets that were left over and got mixed in, or were stuck in the hopper, or whatever. So a few could have been around for the late-in-year 1982-D small dates.

If any do exist, they'd be extremely rare, and probably considered a transitional error more than a variety.
