I found a local community coin club in town here. I go this thursday and I'm kind of excited about it. Ill let them all know of this coin community forum site for I feel this is the best knowledgeable site on the internet with many professionals to help on coin questions. This coin club I'm going to has spaghetti dinner every week and it only cost 10 dollars a year to join. Ill let everyone know how the meeting goes. Itll be interesting for I'm the only one that collects die varieties and errors while the others dont really collect them except for the most known ones like the 1955 LWC DDO.

Here is to me an important question. Is the Spaghetti dinner free? If not how much does it cost? If cheap enough or free, let me know where it is and I'll join. For $10 you really can't go wrong. And good chances some have coins you need or know someone that too may have coins you need. One of the good things aboat a coin club is getting answers to a question fast and not having to wait for someone to read that on the internet. And if the members are about the same ages and marital statuses, it starts some friendships rather than going to bars and taverns. Some clubs, if large enough, can get discounts with organizations like Whitman for publications. Keep us informed as to how it all goes.

Local coin clubs are fantastic opportunities for every aspect of the hobby... and a spaghetti dinner is icing on the cake (will they have cake?!)... enjoy!

However, the location of such coin clubs too makes difference. The ones around where I live just don't last. Due to the high crime rate area, most people don't want to join anything where you give out your real name, address, etc.

This coin club has been going on for yrs now I believe. The crime rate of breakins is pretty high where I live considering there has been numerous breakins on my street alone over the winter. My collection is fairly small and in the bank and not really of much value. I am very discreet on who knows about my collection and that is no one but my parents and wife. The spaghetti dinners are free . Not to many people at the coin club though I'm guessing around 20.

Quote: My collection is fairly small and in the bank and not really of much value. I am very discreet on who knows about my collection and that is no one but my parents and wife In my Psychology class in college they usually start with this. About 10 students stand in a circle. The professor whispers a short story to one of them and then says to whisper that to the next one and then to continue on. As the 10th one hears that he is told to repeat that story. It has change completely by now. The reason I say this is if only one person knows of your coins, tells another, then another, eventually you will have no coins at all or your collection is worth millions. And always remember to keep that wife of who knows what she'll tell.

Just had the coin meeting unfortunately none is was anywhere near my age. Everyone was 68 and older. I'm 33 I felt a little young there. No one there was firmiliar with die varieties and errors that well except for one guy he somewhat collects doubled dies. So next meeting I'm giving a talk at the meeting to explain die varieties and errors and what to look for. I will also be talking about reference books and sites to look at. The club only consisted of a few people I was hoping there was more people. It was a tri-county club and was surprised it only consisted of a few people. Overall the meeting was good one of the members talked about his collection of 60 yrs of collecting. He started at age 8 and he had a nice show and tell.

Glad to hear you had an overall positive experience. Maybe it being a smaller club will make it more enjoyable.
