I just did a brief Internet search but I could not find any information regarding the release date for the ATB 5 ounce silver coin for the El Yunque rain forest. I am looking for information regarding the bullion version, not the P mint marked collectors version.

Has anyone read anything and can shed some light on this? I am also interested in potential mintage figures if anything has been posted.

Thanks.

Nope. There has been no official word as to when (or even if).

The Mint still has inventory of 2011-dated bullion in stock, and are selling to the APs in 500 oz. increments. They have plenty of Olympic, Vicksburg and Chickasaw themed coins on hand for at least the next three years. If anything, they might run the 2012 collector pucks in a strictly limited mintage or to demand in an open order window, but they are barely moving a 100 collector coins a week of the 2011s as it is. Might be a good chance for a no show this year.

Edit- There was a brief tantalizing snippet dropped by the deputy director back in January: the ATB pucks had been "pencilled" in at 45,000 bullion and 25,000 collector coins per design, but absolute silence and total speculation since.

APMEX now has them listed with an availability date of 6/30/12, so maybe these are coming out after all, just maybe.

El Yunque is the first of five America the Beautiful 5 oz Silver bullion coins to be released by the U.S. Mint in 2012 and the 11th in the series. El Yunque, formerly known as Luquillo National Forest and Caribbean National Forest, is only 28,000 acres. It is the only tropical rain forest in the United States Forest System. The forest was originally protected by King Alfonso XII of Spain, which makes it one of the oldest protected areas in the West. Under the name Luquillo Forest Reserve, it was established on Jan. 17, 1903. Today, more than 200 species of trees and plants thrive there, 23 of which are indigenous. The coin's reverse depicts a Coqui Tree Frog and a Puerto Rican Parrot with tropical foliage in the background. The Puerto Rican Parrot is an endangered species unique to Puerto Rico.
