Hello Community,
When someone is selling a mint roll of lets say State Quarters and he or she tells you that the roll is a first addition rolls, How could one verify that the person selling it to you is being truthful?
Thank you for your help.

1st edition=early release. Generally, you cant trust anything or anybody, unless it's slabbed. And then it's a crapshoot.

Rolls sold directly by the US Mint will have a special wrapper-
Mint-Rolls

A First Day of Issue roll would not be sold by the Mint itself. Those are rolls that were obtained at the release ceremonies and then given a USPS commemorative cancellation to mark the FDI date. I attended release ceremonies for the 2009 LP3 and 2010 Shield Cent in Springfield where I made some FDI rolls-

The picture above with the FDI cancellation got me thinking, were they hand stamp afterward or before? I have a few rolls of 2009 LMC from the Mint that I am itching to unwrap to check, but then it wouldn't be from the Mint anymore.

I bought the rolls at the ceremonies held at the Old State Capitol and the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and then got them stamped at a nearby Post Office the same day. According the the postal clerk, that cancellation was only allowed for use on coin rolls that day only. It is also worth noting that the USPS would not cancel any roll that did not have proper First Class postage so they made a killing in Lincoln stamp sales on those days

I brought my stamps with me from St Louis for fear of the Springfield Post Office running out of the Lincoln stamps. They had plenty of them for the LP3 but their supplies were more limited for the Shield release and they did indeed run out. Being the entrepreneur that I am, I sold my five extra sheets of Lincoln stamps for twice their face value
