Found this in a roll. Curious as to what you think caused this.

Shotgun was my first thought. Strange that someone would blast both sides, then return to circulation.

The copper plating was breached which caused the zinc core to corrode, this corrosion crater effect can also be seen on US Zincolns.

Cheap and simple shed job. Probably used shot pellets or similar.

Too small to be shot gun pellets..
See where the arrows are pointing...There is a deeper depression that the actual hole itself...More than likely done with some sort of punch.

Wert is correct, there are deeper depressions. The coin is flat, and there is no displaced material showing. The depressions on the edge have no metal folded over or any bending like you would expect.

I've actually seen a shotgun blasted at a coin and the pellets do way more damage than shown on 25 cent piece's penny. I suspect biokemist6 is correct; it's corrosion.
