Hello. Can anyone shed some light as to if this is a genuine toonie error. The core is tilted in the coin and it doesn't appear that someone has banged it out as I can't see significant damage to the coin. Thanks.

The center piece of the coin can be pushed out with enough force...no real need to hit it with anything. I would say that your coin is worth $2 as is. Wait for a pro to ring in. I have not heard of any offset core variety for the toonie.

That is a striking error in my opinion. Given how the locking mechanism works when the coin is struck, pushing the core partially out (and having it stay there) would not be an easy feat. The core would be more inclined to pop out entirely if pushed with force. I think it would have a premium, to the right twoonie collector...

Thanks spp-Ottawa Your comment gives me hope. I had to borrow $2 to buy that. Lol. Lesson learned.... Always carry cash, not just a card.

Agree 100% with SPP. This is a very desirable twoonie error. I have other years and strikes but not yet 2009.
The locking mechanism if forced to that angle would result on loosing the grip. The coin would also exhibit signs of tampering.

No one publishes on twoonies and most forum replies are given by people not used to the series.
Bimetallic coins are a different beast and one has to look at a good number of them to learn a bit about the topic.

To try to pop out the core on a toonie is not easy using just your hands. The obverse's 2 o'clock position shows how it is an error. It's funny how we value what should be correct instead.

The core of these coins is stable. You have to apply considerable force to move it.
This error, in my opinion, does not add value to the coin. That said, if you have patience, check the 2001 baby sets. You will find at least one of these coins.
In circulation is a bit more difficult to find them.

The toonie in the 2001 baby sets have issues? I don't have any of those sets but will keep my eyes open now.
