A woman I know has relatives in Lebanon who travel a lot, and she asked them to save up some coins for me. What a little treasure trove she has given me. I spent the morning looking all of these up (with hints from RenaL on the Middle Eastern ones). All are at least VG, I think. I don't go out of my way to collect foreign coins, but I do keep each and every one that comes my way. I'm posting this list just because I'm so pleased with this little infusion of coins, especially coming in so serendipitous a way.

I know, Steve -- that's why I posted it.

My favorite, actually, is the one from Bulgaria. That took some detective work. The woman's relatives had said it was Greek -- the Cyrillic alphabet fooled them. I kept looking for Russian coins, then finally I found a chart on the internet and translated the letters. The word I got was STOTINKI, and I thought -- that can't be right. Nobody would call their money stotinki! But evidently the Bulgarians do.

I think I enjoyed the research as much as having the coins.

Stotinka is 1/100 , "cent" in Bulgarian, literally. [Sto=100]
Stotinki is the plural form.
