Appreciate your opinions on whether this example is worthy of chasing for my circulated set ... I sent the seller a question and never got a reply.

I'm thinking maybe AU-something ... but tough for me to judge. I would be interested only if it grades below AU.

Thoughts?

David

Yea, hard to tewll with out it in hand, but its at least (IMO) AU55. Could be plenty higher.

No way it would go XF if slabbed.

Sorry. :(

I would say AU58 and if the right person looked at it it would go MS. Almost looks like some of the wood grain Lincolns. From the pics I can't see any scratches or rub marks.

It does not have a "circulated look" to me. The strike seems weak and the photo is not very flattering for the design. I would think it spent some time in a drawer and received some friction from that but not circulation wear. You may never find a truly circulated example without pocket piecing one for a while; I just don't think it makes the grade for your circulated set.

If I have to be honest, you can do better.

You have shown me time and time again how patient you are. Now is not the time to change that!

Thanks to all for again talking me off the ledge ... I agree with your assessment ... just needed to be sure.

I will take a pass on this Antietam ... still holding out for an honestly well-circulated example.

PCGS has certified 6 Antietam half dollars below AU ... so there is one out there somewhere waiting for me to find.

Special thanks to Not Mint to Be ... I am humbled that you are taking the time to respond to my posts ... your fabulous set continues to be my guiding inspiration. Still willing to help you with photos.

Thanks again to all ... the hunt continues ... perhaps forever.

Looks like I'm late to the party, but I would agree with the consensus -- this one looks like a strong AU to my eye.

Good luck with the continuing search!

Yeah, it barely has any wear at all. Good luck in finding one.
