How do I go about getting it appraised and how do I protect it from damage?

Well, it's worth about $25. As far as damage, it's over 100 years old and isn't damaged yet so just don't play catch with it or leave outside in the rain for too long.

You can protect it by putting it in an album, folder, 2x2 flip or even an air tight holder.
