What's the best place to buy junk silver coins (US)? I don't want to pay much of a premium over the current price of silver.

Get enough posts on here to post what you want to buy on here. There are many of us that sell junk coin on here. I personally don't like 90% so I sell it to buy .999 fine mainly in bar form.

I buy at a local shop for 3 percent over spot using .715 as the factor.

Most of the junk silver I have accumulated are the remainders of job lots I have bought at auction.
I have regarded the cost of acquisition under these circumstances as zero, because there was something else in the lot I have been interested in.

If you live in or near a major metropolitan area, I'd start combing your local coin shops. Prices will be all over the place. There is likely a shop or two that will be selling their 90% just a little above spot.

Hi, your options are to buy them from your local coin shop or a website called Silvertowne, they have pretty good deals on bulk lots of 90%ners, and free shipping too!

pawn shops are great for junk silver. its usually a bad situation for the person who sold but always a great buy for me when I find it.i found a few morgans for 20 a piece when silver was $31

Pawn shops around here seam to thing junk silver should be sold are spot gold price. I took one month and bid on every junk silver lot on ebay, with a set price of $3 below spot. I actually won a lot, and many of them were more numismatic coins than junk. My local flea market has a guy who spends the week buying coin lots from estates. He cherry picks the good coins and throws the junk silver in a bin and sells it at spot. |

My local pawn shop sells me some pretty nice looking "junk" silver coins at spot, so I do as much business there as I can. Some of the coins that he has are too ugly to buy, so I skip them. His selection is not very good but if he has some decent looking coins, he usually offers a pretty good deal on them. I also buy older VF-XF grade coins as well as AU and BU grade 90% US silver coins from APMEX. Yes, they charge more than spot but these are very nice looking coins that look good in my collection, so are worth a little more to me. I especially like the Morgan dollars and the Walking Liberty half dollars.  |
