I agree. Never dump your coins at your source.

Large or small, whatever you do not keep, just spend them. You can even participate in this project...

I picked up a box of dollar coins on Monday. Just started going through them. I would say at least 50% is 2016 dollar coins (Nixon, Ford and Reagan). I am torn!! I can't afford to take five hundred out of my bank account and keep them. Any suggestions?

I just picked up a box as well. Unfortunately, All of the coins are rolled small Dollars. I'm not sure which one are worth keeping. A few on the ends are SBA. The rest look like newer coins. Any thoughts on how to approach going through the rolls?

This should be a lot of fun! I'm psyched! Unfortunately I got the evil eye from the teller. And, the "Is this going to be a regular thing?"

I went through $175 dollars last night. SO far the count is 16 Nixon, 38 Ford, 25 Reagans, Other NIFC 9, and 16 nice circulated presidents. I will need to sort through them later and pull out the ones that are gem.

You might have to hone your diplomatic skills.

She struck me as a true passive aggressive type. I agree, more diplomatic skills are needed on my end!

Silverbullet68: Seems like a lot of Nixon, Ford, and Reagans. Those are not issued for circulation. Sounds like someone dumped their collection. I'd be curious if they are all the same mint mark or mixed.

This is really exciting for me! I collected silver dollars as a child and teenager. Then, I stopped collecting for many years. I still have my Peace dollar collection and some Morgans. Until a few days ago, I knew nearly nothing about modern small dollars. I'm going to try to find a few keepers and stick to the roll hunting. It's not only addictive - it's contagious too!

I think someone bought the bags from the mint, pulled the gems, spent the rest.

That was my fear of doing $1's is that I'd get the small ones and maybe a few of the Eisenhowers. Not sure if PNC or Comerica would come in bags or boxed. If they come bagged, they probably get a mix. If they come in rolls, pretty sure they will be newer dollar coins.
I'm focusing on taking $500 and getting half dollar boxes. I'm specifically looking for early halves or halves with no FG on the back. But then again, that's my focus.
