I have decided to add a Canadian Coin section to my website. In going through my coins to upload to my site I ran into these two coins.

The first is a 1953 Five Cent piece. I know it is the shoulder fold variety, but what I am wondering, is it the "far leaf" variety? Lastly, is it the "missing chrome" variety, or did someone remove it?

Next is a 1913 10 Cent piece. Is it the "small" or "broad" leaf variety?

Hi seal006

Your picture is a little blurry and corroded, so I did some colour manipulation...Looks like a close leaf variety.

Hi seal

It's a little hard to tell on my monitor what the colour of the 1953 nickel is, but I'm going to guess by the variance in shading of the field compared to areas closer to the queen's bust that you have a chrome-plated nickel. The nickel-plated 1944 & 1945 are common enough, but the 1952, 1953, and the 1954 are fairly tough to come by, at least as far as I've seen. You'll also find that some of the chrome-plated ones (at least in the '44 & '45) have a fairly strong plating, while others in the same years have a fairly weak, almost a see-through coating. You have to get coins in a fairly high grade to appreciate these variances, as the plating can wear off in circulation, but it does make it tough sometimes to tell what the coin is with the naked eye.

Hope this helps!
