Is this PMD damage or some problem with the metal that causes discoloration like this? I put two coins on here a 2000P and and 1984D. Any help is appreciated.
That coloration is caused from heat. I did the same thing a while back. Propane torch and a brick. Wash the coin with a light solvent to get any oils off it and heat the coin using a circular motion and when the color changes, turn the torch off and let it cool slowly. And you will have a artificially toned coin that will astound your friends.
