Hi, My last post was in 2009. I've missed my coins a lot since then. I've been living and working in South East Asia. One of the joys of being a "collector" of things is learning about new things to fawn over - like gemstones. However, in Burma I ran across many, many old coins. I haven't bought any since world coins aren't my thing. But, a gemologist friend asked me to find out about a particular coin. He's had in for a long time.

If anyone would care to take a look and reply you'd be very helpful indeed. From art, painting, cultural items, I've assumed the coin is either from the Rakhine area south of Bangladesh with the capitol city called Sitway. Or, from the Prome / Pyae region and period of history in lower Burma.

Thanks, Dan

I'm no expert in coins of this type, but I can direct you to the zeno.ru reference database with some coins of very similar design, from the early Mon kingdoms.
