So my kids and I started searching a bucket of pennies we were given. Approximately 20-30% of them are US ranging from 1950s up. We keep finding ones where the "L" in liberty is crowding the rim or even in the curvature of the rim and the "L" is skinny.

Are these some sort of error or variety? I can't find any information on it.

Completely normal, the master hub was reworked in 1969 so the 1950s-60s issues tend to look mushy with devices spreading towards the rims. Compare a 1968 with a 1969 and you will see the difference.

Thanks for the information. I kind of figured it had to be something like that as there were more than a few.

We have found a number of minor errors, when we finish searching the bucket I'll post them.
