53 here. I have been collecting seriously for a year. I never had a clue how much there was to learn about these little round disc. I am very impressed how involved our youth is in this hobby. They are learning so much about US and World history from this hobby, and saving a buck at the same time.

I am 27. Started collecting again about two years ago after my "too cool for coins stage" passed. Really got into it again because of the passing of my younger brother. Was looking for something to keep my head busy and thought why not get into coins again as I was looking at a old Coin World magazine. It has taken off since,I normally pursue high grade wheat toners,Toned Us type coins, and I love pre 1933 gold. Love this hobby all over again, and for different reasons then my first time around when I was a kid.

Hey Dustin, seriously you are 13 - I have read your byline and assumed you were in the hobby for 13 years. That is so wonderful and you really have a great eye and skill for the hobby. Fantastic! My youngest son will be turning 15 on July 18th, I have been trying desperately get both my sons interested in the hobby but, they have their own interests. I have only been into the hobby for about 8 months and just love it - I wish I had started sooner (especially when my eye sight was better).
Make sure you put a Birthday post up.

Hey Sandy, thanks for the kind words, I will be sure to put a birthday post up. You could set aside some coins for your sons just in case when they get older they realize what a great hobby this is.

Hmm... Yeah, that may be true! However, I think there are more than just two members younger than me lol...
I know at least one other person is, coin_kid (hes a member here, although he hasnt been active recently... he is a member of my coin club though), and I think Ksammut (NumismaticsWithKenny) may be my age as well. I think SilverStackerKid is a half a year, maybe a year older than me, and CoinHuntingDrew is a few more years older than me.

All of you youngsters are starting at a great age! I started collecting at your age and found many, many great finds but had no idea. You kids are way ahead of the curve! In 30-40 years from now you'll be really glad you invested in learning this hobby, knowing what to look for and what to collect. Each of you will have amassed an exceptional collection...whatever you may find.
Stay young for as long as you can...it goes quickly as you'll see!

I guess I'm not that young anymore. Fortunately, I'm still younger than the sum of the age of the three self-declared youngest members here. And about starting age... It's difficult to tell. I've been collecting and learning about coins all my life, without knowing there's a word for it (numismatics), and without doing anything constructive (apart from just dumping all in a cardboard box). It's not so long ago actually that I got my first coin album and 2x2's. Just to find out that I needed a huge amount of those to fit my collection and an even bigger amount of 2x2's. I also managed to get hold of some bulk coins for low prices, so now I'm still busy sorting it all out and cataloguing my collection. I hope I still have a few decades left to do so, though.
