Well, one day It hit me. I collect silver coins from 1900-1920. However, they are very unorganized. I had an urge to create a dansco like album for one series of coins. Then I realized it. I started by me accidentally noticing how my German 1 Mark coin was laying next to a modern day quarter. Instantly, I rushed to one of my quarter albums and I couldnt believe it! The 1 Mark was a perfect fit into the album. So heres my Idea. I will collect coins of the last German one mark series which ran for about the same years as the Barber quarter. I will get a blank quarter album and then just fill it up with the coins! I am trying to get the collection to be all AU. List of coins: 1891 NEED 1892 NEED 1893 NEED 1894 NEED 1895 NEED 1896 NEED 1897 NEED 1898 NEED 1899 NEED 1900 NEED 1901 NEED 1902 NEED 1903 NEED 1904 CHECK (Need Upgrade) 1905 NEED 1906 NEED 1907 NEED 1908 NEED 1909 NEED 1910 NEED 1911 NEED 1912 NEED 1913 NEED 1914 CHECK 1915 NEED 1916 NEED Also, I have a question. Should I collect just by mintmark or by year. If I were to collect the coins by year, I would end up with 25 coins. If I were to collect by mintmark AND by year, I would end up with 150 coins. Counting that one of these coins cost around $10, which should I pick? (There are 6 mintmarks). Thanks everyone, tzarmarko Edited by tzarmarko 06/09/2012 10:48 pm

Just curious, does anyone have any coins that will benefit my collection?

This is a great idea on your part to use quarter albums. I am unsure if I would take the plunge of trying to collect all mintmarks as it might get expensive. I would first try to collect all years and then gradually fill in the album with as many mintmarks as I can find. I do have a 1 Mark 1911A, but I am unsure if I am ready to part with it yet.

The common years/mint marks may be relatively easy available even in high grades, but there are some very expensive. 1905 F for instance will be difficult to find for less than 10K even in low grade... Hope this answers your question

I find those one mark coins fairly frequently in my routine junk silver pickings. They are seldom top grade though. That's a neat project, but if I were going to do it, I would just happily settle for nice undamaged circulated coins. Actually I did do my own version of that project. Way back ~40 years ago I was a teenager picking through dealers' cheap foreign boxes. I discovered 19th century Austrian 1 kreuzers were the same size as a penny, and could be had three for a quarter, and were plentiful, so I began a date run of those in an old Lincoln Whitman folder.

Yea, I guess I will settle for AU for the common ones and VF-XF for the rarer ones.

I'm not a fan of push-in albums. I prefer 2x2s. I collect by years. I'm content if I get all the denominations in a year, and between them, all the mintmarks. So, everything is covered, in a minimum number of coins. That enables me to move on to my next target a little sooner.
