Here is a super marco shot,it does resemble the claw pattern but you see these marks on all types of coins that have reeded edges,even pre decimal silver. After the coins are struck they go on to a conveyer belt which drops them on top of all the other coins & this is the result.
I see a lot of these coins and I used to save them but in the end I thought it had to be PMD but didn't know the mechanism. It's good to finally know what causes it
