Hello, calling all coin collecting brains, what are your thoughts about this coin? The curve of the impression on the obverse exactly matches the curve of a ten cent coin.

Have I struck gold, silver, or is it just cr*p?

As it is indented and not raised it is most likely PMD.

Probably done by another 10 cent coin pressed or hammer into it.

Gosh, you guys are hard to please!

Even without any damage on the reverse, do you still think it is PMD?

I was hoping to hear that you thought it might be very close to being a major double strike (or whatever it is called when a coin is restruck after not properly ejecting from the die).

What am I not seeing - is it just that the impression is indented and not raised?

... sigh, I am never going to learn what to look for ...

Have a look at the double struck $2 coin in this post https://goccf.com/t/120262&whichpage=1

When comparing that coin to yours you can clearly tell yours is not double struck. If it were then the area to the left of the line on the obverse would be the right hand portion repeated (not sure if what I wrote makes sense ) also it would be evident on the reverse also.

The fact that the line is indented and not raised is a major clue that its PMD.

Thanks Enworb. I appreciate your knowledge, but, MAN, AM I disappointed to have to go back to my plan B of winning lotto - in lieu of noodling a desirable coin.

You have to win lotto first so you can cash it all out in 5c coins. Imagine all those 1972 5c

or maybe 20c in the hope of a wavy

oh oh I know $1 coins. Youre bound to get a mule in $50 million worth.... I mean steve found one in his pocket change it cant be that hard after all.

Ha, not far off those targets now.

Already have two x 1972 five cents, and a wavy 1966 20 cents.

... and I keep holding my breath for a mule.

Gasp - I'm turning blue! Breathe ... and a mule will turn up!

The 1972 5c Is the coin that got me into collecting. When I realised I could get at least $5 on ebay for them I went crazy with the noodling. As I learnt more about coins my interest quickly grew from flipping them for a profit to keeping a nice collection for myself. I would guesstimate I've found over 200 1972 5c now and with the exception of a wavy or mule would still be my favourite coin to find whilst noodling.

Enworb, you sound like you have been around for a while. Are you willing to stay online while I capture another weird coin and load it up for your opinion?

Im still fairly new (almost a baby) to coin collecting compared to some of those around the forum. Whilst my years collecting may not be as numerous I'm sure my obsession/addiction/problem has resulted in a lot of time packed into a shorter period.

Im up for a little longer tonight.
