I was going through my loose change today to get ready to take to the bank on Monday and come across these coins and was just wondering if they were double bar 50c and 3.5 claw 20c.
Cheers

Hi Bryan,

Yes, they look the goods to me. Two bars behind the emu's head and a definite gap on the inside claw on the 20c.

What years were the 50c? 1980, 1979?

Hi Guys
The double bar is interesting. I went and got $100 of 50c coins from the bank on Friday, went through them and didn't find anything. Reading your post bryan10au, I have just pulled a couple of handfuls from the bag and there was a double bar. You have given me something more to look for.
Cheers

1980 double bars are the more common I've found, but neither worth anything much more than face value.

the 1979 is harder to find but still worth little more than face value. The double bars arent that hard to find on either year. I'm still on the hunt for a 1996 but I dont like my chances.

I ended up finding 3 double bars in the $100 of 50c. 2x 1979 and 1x 1980.

Hi all I was sorting through some of mum's change today and came across another 2 double bar 50c and 4 3.5 claw 20c. It's strange how I have gone through thousands of dollars worth of change over the past 4 years since I've known about these varieties of these coins and not found any. Now in the past month I have found 4 double bars and 6 3.5 claws.
Also just out of curiosity how rare are these 3.5 claws and what sort of value is placed on them.

They are very common in my experience and not worth more than 20c. The double bar is also pretty common and only worth more than 50c if theyre in very good condition.

I cant post a link of completed listings on ebay becauseit goes through the US site and shows hardly any items. Give it a shot yourself.

As you will see most that sold only had one bid and only went for a dollar or two. The people asking for $100+ have lost it.... considering they ever had it.

They might be worth hanging onto and selling in bulk but I personally dont keep any 3.5 claw or double bar varieties. doesn't mean you shouldnt.

Hi, In UNC or better condition they are'nt very common, they don't really excite me much but I do have an aUNC/UNC one for my variey/error collection & I do keep an eye out for higher grade example.
There are plenty still in circulation but they have been cieculated for 30 + years so not worth keeping.

Thanks for info enworb much appreciated.
I was curious because I thought I had read somewhere that they were only worth a little more than face value but I had been on a couple of sites lately that were selling them for over $100 but admittedly they were UNC.

I am also new to coin collecting. I was excited when I first find a double bar but not they don't. I keep 10 for each of them and when I found a new one, I compare it to what I have and keep the better one. However, I never got anything close to aUnc and most of them just similar condition.
