I personally love my Garret Ace250. I purchased it in 2010 for just over 300$. It is a great entry level detector with easy to read settings.
In the few hunts I have managed to have the time for, I've found over $10 face value in coins and a silver pendant worth over $100
You can always upgrade but my advice is to start with the Garret Ace250
It only senses up to 8+ inches which is more then enough depth to find any and all newer Canadian coinage.
