The last show of the season was yesterday and I made one purchase. I've been looking at this coin for the last couple of shows and I finally pulled the trigger on it and splurged.

It was listed as a Hadrian silver Tetradrachm - Egypt. 22mm 14.01 grams. It's a nice thick coin with pretty good details.

Emperor Hadrian (117 - 138 AD)
Silver Tetradrachm of Alexandria, Egypt.
Regnal Year: 5
obv: Laureate bust of Hadrian facing right. Crescent to right, below and in front of chin.
rev: Eagle standing facing right. Date in fields to either side.

I have a penchant for Roman colonial tetradrachms.

I have an Hadrian Alexandrian tetradrachm with a reclining Nilus on the reverse.

Has a bit of a personal history for me. I originally bought it in 1971 for $4, and sold it with the rest of my collection in 1976, to raise a deposit for our first house. It came up for auction in 1986, and I just had to buy it again. It has remained in my collection since that time.

Nice coin. It is definitely year 5. The legend is weak but the bust seems detailed enough. Very heavy for it's overall size.

Regards,
