A friend of mine at work gave me this when she found it, they all know I collect coins lol, so they bring me interesting things if they ever find any. At first I thought someone had painted over this dollar, but now I am not sure. It sort of looks like its missing the plating....take a look for yourselves !

I found a couple of these a while ago. I suspected the same thing but after having several people check it out and with the weight being normal, it was determined to be environmental damage.

it seems as if it has a thin layer of that grey film like coating on top of the regular plating. I'll be keeping it just fun for hehe

Yeah, I've had a few of these, too, always on the older loonies. I agree with ikandiggit, I think it's just environmental damage. I just spent them, but now you got me thinking, Royal -- maybe I should've kept one!
