I'd say VG-10 on the first one and VF-35 on the second.

nice upgrade... strong Net grade VF-30...might have made EF-40 if there was no whizzing or scratches....enjoy!

I would go VF 30, with such a high mintage I thought I would be seeing an au specimen for an up grand on your set.

The seller made me an offer I could not refuse...

I am split between giving it a VF-35 or a EF-40. I am curious if you know what is going on in the fields right above the eagle's right wing.

I have no idea. I hadn't even noticed it until Atlasheath mentioned "whizzing" and I went looking for what he/she was talking about...

(This coin is probably NOT the final upgrade for this year/mm, but it'll do for now!!)

Moe, you said you checked it.. is it whizzed or no? I feel like I'm seeing lines going in a circular path all around the eagle, even on the lettering "HALF DOL" and on the arrows.

Maybe that's why he made an offer you couldnt refuse

In hand it's very hard to discern any whizzing, I only see some evidence of it on the top half of the reverse. Something has been done to the fields on either side of the eagle. Now why? I have no idea...

I think the scratches on the HALF DOL. & arrows are just that.

From my understanding of whizzing, a rotating wire brush is used to create hairlines on a coin in a radial pattern such that light will reflect in a way that simulates mint luster. I am not sure if it is from whizzing but whatever is going on in the fields appears to have a circular pattern and not the radial pattern on several the whizzed coins that I have seen. I still don't know what caused it though.

Looks like these coins came from two different sets of dies. I don't specialize in Seated Liberty's but I do see that the VF coin has a thin 1 in the date and the VG coin has a wide 1. Am I seeing things or does anyone else see the same?
