It definitely isn't a genuine sovereign - the details are all either too crude, wrong (such as EDVARDVS instead of EDWARDVS) or missing altogether (such as the designer's initials on the reverse and the rim denticles). Compare with a genuine KE7 sov. It sure doesn't look gold, either - not with a verdigris spot on the obverse. It's probably a piece of play money. It does not appear that it was intended to be a coin that would pass as a gold sovereign. I don't see any signs of any gold plating on this piece.
