Wha? ... ummmm, nuthin'? .... yah okay, I've fallen on hard times once again (*sigh*)

I've gone from one extreme to another!

I've gone from buying a 2300 year old Greek coin, to buying a modern "painted" Canadian quarter (oh, and it even glows in the dark!!) ... yah sorry, I can't imagine a coin that is further away from being an "ancient coin" ....

=> so I felt that I had to repent and confess my sins!!

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sidesho...3052860.html

... please, I hope you all can forgive my sins!!

Yah *whateva*, I admit that this coin is lacking in almost every coin-category except for:

a) I have extreme OCD and I already own every single painted Canadian quarter, so sadly, my inner-head is screaming "I must buy this coin and complete the circuit!"

b) there were only 25,000 coins minted, so I usually jump on board when the numbers are that low (yes, a fool and his glow-in-the-dark money, are soon parted, eh!?)

cheers

*whateva* ... awesome stain, dougsmit!! (I laughed out loud!!)

... but as I stated earlier, before I wandered this way, I collected Canadian quarters and Canadian banknotes (I still must be loyal to my homies!!) ... is that how you spell "homies"?

I was hoping nobody would respond. I think the conversation steve was starting to have with himself would have been enlightening. The first post asked for forgiveness, the second started to justify the purchase by the third I figured he would be cussing us all out...

I had a very significant collection of ancients and rare Australian coins which I diposed of in 1976 which paid 1/4 of the value of our first house when we married.

Although I didn't exactly fall on hard times, that made me broke, because I had a mortgage and a family to feed.

So I build a World collection from dealer's junk boxes with 10C to 50 c. purchases. This continued for about 10 years, until I paid the house off. I even made a few good purchases in ancient coins, although I blew my limited budget occasionally.

You don't need to spend any significant money to feed a serious interest in numismatics. The purchases made in those years still remain of very considerable interest to me to this day.

I continued with World coins, but started back into ancients and expanded into hammered and milled World coins as well, gradually spending more on purchases each year.

The only two questions at the time of purchase that I ask myself are:
1.) Is this coin unusual enough to interest me for whatever reason?
2.) It this coin good value for money?

That strategy has continued to this day, but my my budget is much larger now.

If left alone, he might fall in the abyss and never return. Besides, he would just go in circles.

amida => wow, you're uncanny ... yah sadly, you're probably right ...

=> I betcha "one" more glass o' wine and I would have somehow managed to get myself kicked-out of this place!!

I would have sent-out somethin' along the lines of:

"wha? ... you ancient-guys think that you're better than me ... blah-blah-blah-blah ..."

=> so yes, thank you very much, Bing ... you didn't leave me twisting in the wind too long (I owe ya one!!)

=> amida ... wow, are you a high-powered coin-psychiatrist?

thanks sel => in all honesty, I "love" my Canadian Collection (it is "massive" compared to my new ancient collection) ...

Ummm, sure, it may have a few painted-coins tossed-in, but mainly it contains awesome old Dominion of Canada coins and bills (nice)

=> but again, you're correct, considering the crazy sell-out of this painted-coin and the zany e-bay amounts that this coin has gone for, I feel kinda good that I managed to grab one at a reasonable enough price (a Canadian fool and his money, eh?)

... this thread is fun ... thanks for replying!!

Congrats Stevex

I think yours is a right facing Pachyrhinosaurus. Here is a left facing relative, though you can't see it in the dark.
