I don't typically roll search. But I always look at the tray at the bank and I ask for any half dollars that they have. I also ask for $2 bills and dollar coins. Since I go to this bank at least twice a week, the tellers all know what I am looking for.

This past week, one of the tellers said that someone had turned in 6 rolls of half dollars. I didn't have any cash left at the time so I asked him to save them for me and I would stop back in a day or two. When I went back on Friday, he still had the 6 rolls of half dollars. I also asked for 2 rolls of dollar coins (to spend of course). Another teller said the dollar coins are in the vault, and there is also 2 more half dollar rolls. She brought these out and one of the rolls was open. I saw several silver coins in this batch so I said that I would take all of them.

That night, I opened the 6 rolls first. About half were bicentennial halves and the rest were from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. There were a few nice ones that I kept. The rest will be spent over the next few weeks.

But the 2 half dollar rolls from the vault were a bonanza. Inside these 2 rolls were 8 1964 halves (90% silver), 1 1965, 4 1966, 8 1967, 4 1968D, and 1 1969D halves (40% silver). This is 26 silver halves in 2 rolls. None of these are uncirculated but the 1965 is really close.

When I go back to the bank on Monday, I will ask them to save any half dollar rolls that they get from now on. I am really terrible at taking pictures, but here is a shot of them stacked up by date.

Has anyone else been this lucky lately?

Not since 2009. I made several very good scores that year. Ended up with 11 Franklin s and 7 Walkers total for the year as well as 108 64's and a grand total of 734 40% halves. All of these came from customer wrapped rolls. I searched 4 boxes only to get 2 impaired proofs, so I found that a 1/2000 keeper ratio was not worth my time.

I thought there was a roll hunting thread but I could not find it yesterday. I did not realize that a new section was created for this. I will post in there also. This forum has so much information that I did not even know about. Amazing.

About a year ago I picked up $115.00 face of dime, quarter and half rolls. More half rolls than the others. The $115.00 face was all the teller had to offer so I took them all.
The wrappers looked promising. The old style. She stated that an elderly person had just dropped them off earlier that morning. Well, I opened up the first roll of dimes and bingo !
All silver roo's. The rest of the rolls, also all silver. All but one of the half rolls were 64 P/D Kenns.
The rest 40%. All wash. silvers and one roll of mixed mercs.
Every single coin silver. That will most likely never happen again. That was my best bank find. Second best was $60.00 face all silver halfs both 90 and 40% mixed.
