I'd like suggestions in identifying this - it's not a British coin, and I don't think it's from Brunswick-Luneberg or Hanover.

It might be a contemporary fantasy coin because the portrait is so poor.

It's about the size of a George III half-guinea, but it has the wrong arms, although that might have saved its perpetrator from the gallows.

I've included a Canadian 10c for size comparison - I think it's about 21mm diameter - it weighs 2.25 g.

The clue might be the arms but I don't recognise them.

Any ideas, please ?

Hard to tell by the small picture, looks like it could be a gaming token like those made in the late 1700's to resemble the coinage but with different wording as to not break the law of the day...

Peter,
The reverse reads 17 <crown> 61 MB F ET H REX FD B ET LD SRIA TETE R:
which apart from the final R is often found on George III's British coins.

I've put an image at http://www.bordersfhs.org.uk/Docume...LargeRev.jpg

I hope this image is clearer.

thankyou: the legend is similar to others I have seen on pre-1801 coins.
The coat of arms - and I am no expert - looks sus to me because -
the French, Irish, and Hanoverian elements look OK, but the English element only has two lions passant, whereas three is the norm.
And, the crown doesn't look right.

I'm thinking that it might be a comemorative medallion, celebrating KG3's aoronation, issued privately, rather than a coin from The Royal Mint ...
