Spent the day walking through antique/junk shops with my wife. There is a nearby city that has maybe a dozen all grouped together that we've never been to. At the very first one we go into I find a cabinet with quite a few coins, mostly Peace dollars. No real bargains, everything seems to be priced at about retail (I'm aware that there is only a couple of dates in this series to get real excited about). Nothing catches my eye enough to buy. But wait, what is this on top of the case? A large, framed behind glass, 20th Century type set, with, lets count 'em, 29 coins. Even from a distance I can make out details in all the coins. Probably every one is F or better. The Morgan looks like it might be EF, the date is 1901.

The frame is probably 20" X 29". I don't look forward, however, to carrying this around all day. I think to myself, I'll come back in here just before we leave and pick this up. We leave the store.

Raise your hand if you can see where this is going...

3 hours later I walk back in, and yes, it is gone.

I ask the young man behind the counter if he sold the framed coins. He says, "Yeah, about 15 minutes ago."

If you've read this far, get ready for the best part.

The price tag on it had read, "FIRM!!! $30.00"

Consolation prize: I did pick up a F-12 1890CC Morgan at another shop for $75.

The wife and I like hitting the Antique Shops in town too. In two of them one of the sales-ladies will call and let us know if any new coin, medal, or other items of interest are brought in. It's a HUGE two-story consignment store, St Joe Antiques Mall.

Take Care

mathman, it doesn't sound like this antique dealer would make it in the coin business. You should watch his shop future sales.

Don't kick yourself too hard, it has happened to most of us before. It makes you less hesitant the next time you encounter a deal.
