hey guys, out of 30 ancient coins that I've attempted cleaning, this is the only one that shows great detail with no scratches. I noticed that it has the word Constans which would probably be in the later periods, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you very much family in advance, I really highly appreciate all of yalls help so far.

Looks like a coin of Constantine I.

Obv: CONSTANTINVS AVG
Rev: GLORIA EXERCITVS, Two soldiers standing, with one standard between them
Mint looks to be either Antioch or Alexandria

The mintmark is SM for Sacra Moneta/Sacred Money AN for Antioch followed by a workshop letter which is less than clear here. I'll guess B which means workshop #2 but it could be another of the 10 choices made unclear by the corrosion of time. The Obverse reads Constantine for sure but I see it as Constantine II issued just after his father's death when he was first made Augustus. This is a question others here may choose to dispute.

The portrait looks like Constantine II, similar to this one on wildwinds:

Since you have the coin in hand, can you make out the last letter/symbol in the mintmark? It's not clear on your image.

Thank you very much for the help guys,
the last letter of the word under the two soldiers and standard is a P.

I'm fairly sure that "P" is not a choice. According to my resources, there are many choices, but "P" is not one of them. Could it be a "B" where the bottom is either worn or was a weak strike to begin with? This only makes a difference if you want an exact attribution. Otherwise, I think it is probably RIC VII 40 which is listed by RIC as scarce (doesn't mean much per other discussions on this forum)

yea, I'm pretty sure that it's a B, the lower half probably got worn out at some point.

Constantine II for sure.

A quick search on Dane's pages for one standard Antioch mint eliminates this obverse legend from being Constantine I.

Yeah, this is one of the sources I used to help ID this coin. Perhaps silverdollar2011 could use the link to her pages:http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm
