Does anyone have a recommedation on barcode scanners that will let me input coins without all the work?

I use the Heritage database which accepts it, but no info on scanners.

That is the only thing I will use it for, so do not want anything exotic.

Thanks,
Seth

What do you mean when you say you use the Heritage database? Do you affix each coin with a barcode and then scan the coin? Where does the original info come from? Is this already entered for each barcode to begin with, and you just put a barcode stamp on the 2X2 that you put it in?

I use barcode readers at work, but they are probably much more complex than what you need.

The company we buy ours from is Keyence. They may have cheap ones, not sure.

Are you talking about scanning slab bar codes?

Yes, slab barcodes. The free Heritage Auctions database is the best going that I have found. Too bad I cannot use it without being on line.

Anyway, when you add a coin you can find it in their system or you can scan the slab barcode (only PCGS,ICG, ANACS, ICG and PCI I believe). The alternate option with PCGS is just entering the coin number (first four before the decimal).

Slab barcodes--cheapy will do.

Thanks,
Seth

I have CoinManage that also will let me put in barcodes.I had an old Barcode Anything scanner, but it will not do the job, so cheap is out. It would scan the larger barcodes on older slabs, but would not pick up the smaller ones on the newer slabs.

Just letting you know, cuz if you order a cheap handheld CDD, it MAY not work. Be sure what you get will do very small barcodes.

I worked in a pharmacy that used barcode scanners before I started consulting. They used to tell us that the scanners cost several hundred dollars to replace. They had a few of the barcode pens too, which they claimed were less expensive. While I can't substantiate any of this, you may want consider one of the pens.
