Yeah, it's a little confusing & it took me a bit to get my head around it. So basically if the note has a 93, 94, or 96 after the prefix and first two numbers, it's a first release note:

AB10 93 xxxx
AB11 94 xxxx
AB12 96 xxxx

Or second relese:

AB10 12 xxxx
AB11 34 xxxx
AB12 45 xxxx

The difference is the third & fourth numbers.

thanks simon the other 4 I got are mine,i went to the reserve bank when they came out in 1988 .. they would only allow us to get 4 only so mine are still as I got them and the numbers are
AB 24 964753 , 4 , 5 , 6 ,.. I know they are the first issue , because I got them on the first day of release from the reserve bank in brisbane .. ,, kel ,,

this is how I have them stored away , first in envelope , then place that between 2 sheets of white paper ( A4 )THEN I LAMINATE IT to make it air tight and that keeps them perfect ,.. ,, kel ,,
