When I dump a roll to search, seems that more end up with the reverse up and I have to turn them to see the dates.

Now is this because of the design of the coin and the obverse is heavier or just by luck ?

My wife says I have to much free time to be thinking of things like this

For something as thin and flat as a coin, I don't even think it follows that the heavier side is more likely to land facing downwards.

If you take into account how much of the metal from the planchette is displaced by the design and striking of the obverse and reverse image, it it possible for one side to be heavier that the other.

May be only a hundredth of an oz., but that could explain how they fall.
