I found this little guy in a small collection I purchased. I don't think it's a double die but leaning towards recut die. The obverse is chock full of doubles all around U.S. of A. and the indians head dress has filled in sections between the feathers and I believe some missing portions too. On the reverse I can spot the ghost images on the right side of the oak leaves. The date appears to be unaffected. Any help would be appreciated. Any value? Thank you. Lots of pics. If you need others let me know.
The obverse is affected by Longacre Doubling, commonly found on IHCs and other mid-19th century issues. It is an intentional part of the design and possibly utilized to extend die life but the definitive reason for its presence is unknown. The reverse wreath is affected by clash marks, also fairly common.
