There's a few sellers on ebay who 'soften' their pictures (photoshop) thereby improving the fields greatly by hiding the marks.

One such seller *bar-ch***, a US seller of Canadian coins does this profusely.

I purchased a coin from him many months ago and sent him back a scathing email detailing his very unethical practice of photoshopping the pics.

He answered me back by playing dumb by saying he had no knowledge that his pictures are misleading.

There's about 4 sellers on ebay that do this and I was just wondering what your thoughts or experience has been with these sellers.

Look a bit harder, There are many sellers that use photo shop or different lighting techniques to "enhance" the grade of their coins.

I think it is a TOTALY dishonest practice and should be stamped out
It has fooled me on 3 occasions and each time I have posted neg feedback, That is the ONLY way that you can try and stamp out these crooks
Why can't sellers take a photo AND a scan of the coin so that it can be assessed from the listing, A scan will show any flaws in a coin.
A photo will show any lustre and a scan will show every detail on the coin.

Then we have the fuzzy pic's and the stock or "borrowed" pic's............Don't get me started on them horrors

I had the same thing happen to me last week and the seller said I could return the coin if I so wished. The grade from the scan showed almost uncirculated but did not grade any better than vf. 30.I am out 2 dollars for delivery and one stamp.

Most sellers have a return policy. If not,I would not bid on his offerings. If you are not happy with an item, better return it than be out the purchase price.Like trout 1105 said,a lot of the photos posted have been manipulated.

There are way more than 4....As much as you have the bug, if in doubt....

Plenty of ways to make a coin or token look okay, or better than it is...I just don't buy from them any more.

Lots of gear around ...
