Hi everyone, I'm only new here, actually my first post. I just became aware that certain polymer notes may be worth more than their face values. Consequently I checked my stash and found 4 $100 notes with the serial numbers commencing with AS 96- they are in very good condition. I was wondering if anybody could shed some light on what they may be worth. I've done some searches and bought a book that says they may be worth about 300 to 600 each. All four notes follow in order with the serial numbers i.e. 313, 314, 315, 316. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance

Hi Shackled to CCF The notes you have are actually test notes,we have a note stats man here,Goatieman who knows all there is to know about polymer notes so hopefully he will see this thread later & give you some facts & figures.

Awesome appleangel, trying not to get too exited- I've had them stashed for years with a heap of othe 96,s. the others are in not so good condition- these four however must have been put in a paypacket or spat out of an atm in order- wonder if they grade as uncirculated or not

Okay, $100 test notes aren't really wanted by people unless if they're in strict UNC condition. The hardest thing with the $100 test notes is that ample amounts were printed. There were 11,263,968 $100 test notes printed in 1996. Many of these notes stay in fantastic condition simply because people don't tend to spend $100 notes regularly. One thing I can say is anyone interested in polymer notes will generally be interested in the first (AN) & last prefix (CS) notes because they are scarcer (351,999 of each printed) & highly regarded as some of the notes to have. In saying that, the overall $100 print of 1996 notes had its last prefix print (JK) of only 242,499 notes. Many auctions (e.g Downies, Noble etc) won't see $100 test notes sold...& it'll probably be that way for a long time to come. But on ebay if you have a look at the link below, you'll see where the situation is at: http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_nkw...0.m270.l1313

Goatieman- much appreciate your feedback, sad for me that they are not really sought after, may put them on anyway as they do appear to be unc and heres hoping that the set of four consecutive serial numbers adds some value. Oh well, may have to sit on them for another 25 years lol.

Just one more quick question Goatieman or anybody willing to contribute- if these four as96 notes do indeed make the unc grade what would be a realistic expected price for the set. I looked at ebay and nothing seems to get bid on very often and by the sound of things the valuations in renniks book are way off the mark.

Your best bet is to probably sell them as pairs, because a lot of people aren't going to be willing to fork out $600 in one shot. I'd be listing them at $300 for a pair as consecutive serials, you may only get one bid, you may get a couple. Considering a lot of people probably search through lots of cash, I think that price isn't too much to ask. If the first pair sells, then put the second lot up a little higher.

Cheers Appleangel, probably should have put a better pic on and started the bidding lower, will see what happens. Don't really want to sell them anyway unless its a good price. First time selling something on ebay anyway so a good test. Actually thinking of buying silver coins as an investment, started to noodle also...found a new hobby, love it.

A few tips, You're allowed something like 12 pictures on ebay free in your listing, on expensive items use them up. You could take pictures of each note by itself. And I am pretty sure people will want to know the serial numbers of the notes. Eg write them down in order, in the description. Some people have trouble reading the numbers in pictures, and it's easier to read description. And here are a few listings that have been done well, have a look and see how others set up there wording. I wouldn't bother about putting terms and conditions and payment in the description tho as it is a real put off. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...p=true&rt=nchttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...p=true&rt=ncThis one has cool pictures but crap description (any description that take more than a minute to read loses my interest) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...p=true&rt=nc

Goodluck with the auction. Problem with test notes is, the price has to and continues to "settle". They are extremely rare in true UNC. Anything less, the book price really doesn't mean much, unless they are the first/last prefixes. If you could post up a high resolution image, I could try help you grade them, those pics, are very hard to see. Also I would suggest for this item, to be broken up into 2 pairs starting at $1, since you see how you go ! I have had hundreds of higher grade test notes over the years and seen only a couple of real uncs...

Wornder if there is such a thing as a certified expert grading. i.e go into a reputable dealer or expert on banknotes and get a certificate of grade. Anybody ever heard of this?
