Hi My Mom is visiting me and driving me crazy about this $100 bill she has been hanging onto for about 7 yrs. Apparently when she tried to use it at Bingo in California they told her not to use it because it worth ALOT of money!lol. The bill has Franklins picture but the shadow picture on the bill is not Franklin. So I take her to local coin shops and she is out because she thinks they are all going to steal it! So if someone on here can tell me how much its worth approximately, lol, I will show her your reply. Not that she will believe you, lol. If you can point me into a collector or tell me where I can take her to have it looked at where I won't have to be buzzed in to get into the building I would appreciate it. I live in Las Vegas, NV. Thanks Margie

Hi John
Thanks for the reply. I would post it but you won't be able to see it because you have to hold it up to the light. The water note is a different face its longer and has a beard.

Hold the note to a light source from the back and take the photo then post it here. John1

I dunno, looks enough like Ben to me.... He does look a little.....off tho.....could potentially be counterfeit.
If you want to be absolutely certain, have your bank sent it to the secret service or send it to PCGS to be graded.

Looks to me like Grant in the watermark, but I have no idea what it might be worth.

Thanks for the replies. It was looked at by a Police Officer in California. He was the one who told my Mom it was an error note and worth some money! lol. I am just trying to get some answers for my Mom. The water mark is definitely not the same person. I don't know who it is.... I say she takes it to Bingo and maybe she will win!! Margie

Vegaslady, does the bill have a security thread in it? That's a thin piece of plastic inside the bill that runs vertically a little to the left of the main portrait. On a $100 bill it should say "USA 100" on it a couple times. If there is no security thread, or it says anything other than USA 100 then it is either counterfeit and not worth much , or it could be a wrong paper stock error and worth quite a bit . Also, if you have a black light, the $100 security thread is supposed to glow pink, but I have never tried nor confirmed this. All US paper money stock is made by a single company, Crane & Co. in Dalton, Mass. They also make paper for the currency of many other countries. It's highly improbable, but not impossible I suppose, that this bill may be on some other country's paper stock. You could possibly try to contact them to see if they can shed some light on it for you. Their contact number is 1-800-268-2281, Mon-Fri 8am -- 6pm EST.

Nevermind. I just noticed on your flickr account that you had posted other photos and it does show USA 100 on the security thread. I don't know, that watermark looks like it has a beard to me.

It resembles Ben...but it also does look a little off too.
But just for your info, if you take it to the bank OR if you take it to Secret Service, and it is found to be counterfeit, they'll take it. Basically, you'd be out $100! They wont replace it!
Also, if it is fake and you try to pass it off to a mom and pop store because you want to get rid of it, then you screw them too, because it wont be deposited into their account.
Now youve got yourself a dilemma.

Welcome to the forums It looks like a genuine, normal $100 note to me. I see the slight cross-hatching texture in the paper that I see on the older large-portrait bills. That is Franklin in the watermark. What looks like the mustache is just some of the texture of the paper, like what can be seen on the right border of the note. It's that patchy dark-brown looking stuff from the slight un-smooth texture of the paper. The beard is, well.. It think that's part of his chin. I think a close-up picture of the actual ink portrait can help ensure that this is a genuine note also. Additionally, does the green 100 numeral on the front change color from green to brown when the bill is viewed at a different angle?

That is a pretty interesting note. Look up some currency dealers in your area and take it to them to have a look at it. I looked at my 1996 series (AE) and mine looks like Ben with no beard. Is there anything on the reverse that would add that beard/shadowing affect?
