While me and my grandpa were going through a couple of bags and a purse that belonged to my late grandma (his wife, who passed on in April 2010) we found this broken ring: Band says 14 K, oval part unknown Since Grandpa had no sentimental atatchment to the ring, he let me have it. I'm having a minor wrasseling match with myself now: Do I flip this into coin at my local coin & PM dealer now or later? Would I get more bang for the transaction with different market prices at a later time? Or, do I hang on to it as the seed of a future gold stack? What would you all do?

I honestly wouldn't think it would be worth much at the moment. Hold onto it and maybe sell it on ebay for melt at a later date when gold hits record highs again.

I see it a bit differently. If you can get a coin now that you will enjoy do it! You may get more money later, you may get less but if you can have a coin that you love why wait? Free gold is always nice but I try to always remember..."pigs get fat....Hogs get slaughtered."

I just fliped the ring into $55 worth of 6 silver coins plus $3 in fiat left over, which went toward storage supplies. I'll post the coins in the appropriate threads.

If they are bullion coins, why not post those pics right here?

14 K is really doesn't matter, not much weight with the ring. Nice silver bullion coins. Not good enough condition to really think in terms of Numismatic. Though to each their own, they will bring bullion price.
Personally I would just keep the ring just as good as a bullion coin.

Get the ring fixed if it means anything to you. Money is imaginary.
I'm willing to guess that the oval part is also 14K. The setting on that stone is very interesting, although the stone is not. If the back is not "open" then the stone is suspect. From what I can see the cut is much too good and I suspect it to be glass. Can we get a closeup pic of that, or is that too much trouble? Edit: Oops, I guess you already sold your heirloom. Oh well.

Quote: I guess I can re-post them here, if you like Ed, though they are more numismatic than bullion to me: Very nice coins. Thanks for posting the pic. I especially like the Morgan. It's in really nice condition.
