I guess I need 50 posts before I can make a gallery, but I thought I would say hi and share a couple of my nicer looking coins. Not really into Greek coins, but this is probably my favorite coin - Philip II. Constantine I posthumous issue. The hand of God version is really cool, but the shrouded Constantine on this reverse kind of creeps me out a little. I just really like this coin for some reason. This is my only coin from the republic, Julius Bursio 85BC, one of two coins from my first coin purchase. Sorry about the quality of the scans. I have never tried to zoom them in before, since I have the actual coins at hand. I will have a better system in place by the time I hit 50. Edited by Nothus 07/08/2012 8:11 pm

Sorry. I've been busy entertaining my spousal unit. Love the coins but really love the Constantine. Especially the obverse. The portrait is great.

If you are after a nice piece of Greek coinage for not too much money, the bronze of Philip 11 you have illustrated fills the bill nicely. Nice coin.
Roman Republic denarii always seem to be available, but when you make up your mind to include an example in your collection, they can be irritatingly scarce. Even more so for Republican bronze.

Thanks. I reslly like the posthumous Constantine coins, one is sad and one is almost triumphant. I probably won't get many more coins from the republic, but they have an intersting look. The Philip looks so much better in hand, the green doesn't show well in the picture.

I find the Republic coins to be nearly as nice and just as difficult as Greek coins, so I generally stay away from them. Although I, too, like them very much. I own only three Republic coins, an AE As of Sextus Pompey, and one each Denarii of M. Aemilius and D. Junius Albinus. None of which are in the best of conditions.

The Greek coins are nice but they are as expensive as they are pretty. I would like to eventually get some of the Julius Caesar, Brutus and the rest of the important people of the period, but those are pretty pricey too. That Philip one nagged at me, watched it on auction for a week. The seller's picture was much better than the one I have, the price was low enough and I finally just had to have it. I had been eyeballing others of the type but hadn't seen one so nice for so cheap. Definitely won't be parting with it anytime soon. :)
